Cousins Arrested After Stabbing in Covina 7-Eleven Parking Lot Leaves Man Injured: Police

Two cousins were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a man in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven convenience store in Covina Saturday, police said.

Officers were dispatched about 2:10 a.m. to 105 N. Vincent Ave. to a call of three individuals involved in a physical altercation, according to a news release from the Covina Police Department.

They located the victim, a 27-year-old man who had been stabbed in his shoulder and abdomen.

He was rushed to a hospital in unknown condition with injuries that are believed to be life-threatening, the release stated.

Witnesses told investigators that the two people fighting the victim ran southbound on Vincent into a residential area in neighboring West Covina, according to police.

During the investigation, West Covina Police Department officers were dispatched to a possible prowler in the backyard of a home located not far from the 7-Eleven.

They arrived at the residence and detained two subjects who were hiding in the backyard.

Police determined they were the same two people involved in the fight and stabbing outside the convenience store, according to the release.

The suspects, 21-year-old Eric Melendez and 19-year-old Manuel Melendez, were positively identified and arrested by Covina police on suspicion of attempted murder, the release stated.

The cousinsĀ are being held at the Covina Police Department on $2 million bail, according to authorities.

Their first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
