Driver Leads Police on Brief Pursuit, Slams Into Tree in Beverly Hills Before Being Apprehended

A driver of a silver SUV was taken into custody Wednesday evening after leading authorities on a brief pursuit and slamming into a tree in Beverly Hills, officials said.

The chase began about 10:40 p.m. in the Los Angeles Police Department's Wilshire Division, a spokesperson for the agency said, adding that the motorist was suspected of reckless driving.

Sky5 video showed authorities chasing the vehicle on surface streets through Hancock Park, Hollywood and West Hollywood before the SUV struck a tree at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Alta Drive in Beverly Hills.

The driver fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by police.
