A 5-year-old child died and at least two other people were injured in a two-alarm house fire in Vallejo on Sunday morning.

Firefighters received a report of a fire at 827 Stella St. shortly before 10 a.m., according to a statement from the Vallejo Fire Department. They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the single-family home and several neighbors trying to rescue someone who was trapped inside.

As a second alarm was called, firefighters mounted an “aggressive interior attack” and tried to reach the person, who was believed to be inside a back bedroom that was fully engulfed in flames. Though the fire was quickly extinguished, the victim, identified by the Associated Press as a 5-year-old boy, died.

Firefighters encountered two other injured occupants in front of the home. A woman suffered second- and third-degree burns and a teenage male suffered minor burns, according to the statement. Both were taken to Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center. Their identities weren’t released.
