A 19-year-old man was shot to death Monday night after he tried to follow the person who had just assaulted and robbed him at a park in San Bernardino, police said.

Christian Morales was at Lytle Creek Park about 8:30 p.m. when he was assaulted and robbed, according to a news release from the San Bernardino Police Department.

Morales apparently got into his car and tried to follow the attacker when the person opened fire in the 1300 block of Poplar Street, the news release stated.

Officers responded to the shooting and discovered Morales had been struck multiple times.

Morales was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his wounds, the Police Department stated.

No details were available on a possible identity of the gunman.
