Hundreds of skateboarders descended on the streets of downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon to mark the 13th annual Go Skateboarding Day.
Video from Sky5 showed crowds of skateboarders maneuvering through the area, some on sidewalks and others in traffic lanes.
Authorities observed two groups of skaters, totalling about 300 people, headed east from downtown, said Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.
Eisenman described the crowds as peaceful and said no arrests had been made nor citations issued.
June 21 has been designated as Go Skateboarding Day since 2004, when the “official holiday” originated in Southern California as “an excuse for skateboarders to make skateboarding their top priority,” according to the International Association of Skateboard Companies.
