A man was arrested Wednesday morning after barricading himself inside a Montebello for hours, officials said.

About 11 p.m. Tuesday a man brandished a gun at a family and made criminal threats to a family, Lt. Michael Bergman said.

Police were able to get the family out of the home in the 200 block of South 7th Street, but the suspect then barricaded himself inside and was being uncooperative.

Surrounding homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution, Bergman said.

The man finally came out about 8:40 a.m. after police shot tear gas into the home. He was arrested without further incident.
