Driver Killed, Female Passenger Injured When Car Slams Into Pole in Fullerton

A 26-year-old driver was killed and his 22-year-old passenger was injured when a car slammed into a pole in Fullerton Friday morning, police said.

The solo-vehicle crash was reported around 7:15 a.m. near the intersection of Hughes Drive and Gilbert Street, according to a news release from the Fullerton Police Department.

The driver, who was trapped in the car, had to be extricated by personnel from the Fullerton Fire Department, the release stated.

He was rushed to UCI Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released pending next of notification.

A female passenger sustained moderate injuries, according to police. Her condition was not immediately known.

The roadway was expected to be shut down for several hours after the crash, and motorists were urged to avoid the area, the Fire Department tweeted.

The crash is under investigation, and anyone with information has been asked to call the Police Department’s Traffic Bureau at 714-738-5313.
