Microsoft really wants you to upgrade your computer to Windows 10. You might already be aware that you only have until July 29 to upgrade for free. Now the countdown is on and Microsoft says it will give you a free computer if they can’t successfully upgrade your eligible PC to Windows 10.

Here’s how it works. First, your computer has to be eligible for the free upgrade. You can check that eligibility using the steps below. Then, make an appointment with an Answer Tech at a local Microsoft Store and bring in your PC before noon. If they can’t successfully install Windows 10 on your computer by the end of the day they will give you a Dell Inspiron 15 for free.

It might sound too good to be true but it shows how confident Microsoft is that Windows 10 will install and run properly on machines that can handle it.

If your computer isn’t eligible for the upgrade deal, Microsoft will take it off your hands for recycling and give you $150 towards a new computer. This could be a good deal if you have been itching for a new machine and don’t think your old one is worth much.

As a reminder, the free upgrade to Windows 10 will only be available until July 29th. After that it will cost upwards of $100 to get the software. I know many of you have been hesitant to upgrade due to past issues with new versions of the operating system (especially Windows 8) but I can assure you Windows 10 is leaps and bounds ahead of previous versions. In fact, it’s sort of a mix of the best of Windows 7 and 8.

Here’s how to verify your eligibility for the upgrade deal:

  • Install the Get Windows 10 app on your device
  • Review “Check your Upgrade Status
  • If the app indicates you can upgrade, visit your local Microsoft Store with your PC for expert assistance
