The blaze began as a vegetation fire around 9:45 p.m., but the flames jumped into the trees and quickly spread to the motel located at Hospitality Lane and Commercenter Drive, according to Eric Sherwin with the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

About 77 firefighters were battling the blaze.

Another nearby motel was also threatened by the blaze at one point.
