A brief car chase on Thursday ended with a Los Angeles police officer opening fire, killing a man who was armed with a gun, authorities said.
The incident in Boyle Heights marked the 11th fatal shooting by on-duty LAPD officers this year.
Officers began chasing a stolen car about 7:20 p.m. The pursuit lasted just a few minutes before coming to an end in the 1200 block of Atwood Place, a cul-de-sac, LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado said.
A man who was a passenger in the car got out of the vehicle and ran up a driveway, Preciado said.
