A 26-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning after a brief standoff with Pasadena police, officials said.

About 7 a.m. officers responded to the 300 block of Markham Place, to reports of a man pointing a handgun at people passing by, police said in a news release.

The home is in a residential area near Huntington Memorial Hospital.

Officers found the suspect hiding in the front yard of a home. The man refused to comply with officers and nearby homes were evacuated, police said.

After attempting to negotiate with the man for about 30 minutes, officers deployed a police dog and Jordan Creger, of Wildomar in Riverside County, was taken into custody.

Police searched the area and found a loaded handgun, officials said.

Creger was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm, according to the news release.
