A man died in a West Covina church parking lot on Saturday after being shot while trying to sell property in a nearby North Woods Inn, according to police.

The shooting occurred around 11:50 a.m. in the parking lot of Clearman’s North Woods Inn, at San Bernardino Road and Azusa Avenue, Covina Police Sergeant Gregg Peterson told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

The victim and another man may have been meeting someone to sell legal property in an arrangement they organized online, according to police.

After the shooting, the man drove the victim to the parking lot of Faith Community Church and waited for first responders, police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity has not been released.

"We don’t know at this point," said Peterson. "We don’t know if they had an altercation prior, if they knew each other, if it was a random act. We know that the victim was there to sell some merchandise but we don’t know what happen prior to that."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Covina Police Department at 626-384-5628. Anonymous tipsters may call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
