2 Officers Injured, Airlifted for Medical Treatment After ‘Industrial Accident’ in South Gate

Two officers have suffered from "significant" injuries after an "industrial accident" happened while police were doing routine canine training exercises in South Gate on Wednesday night, according to local officials.

The two officers -- one from the Downey Police Department and the other from the South Gate Police Department -- were airlifted for medical care after suffering from burns to their faces and upper bodies, authorities said. The incident occurred in the 5600 block of East Imperial Highway around 5:50 p.m.

The status of their injuries or how the incident happened is still not clear, as police have not yet released further information at this time.
