A person who offered to pay for items that a man was allegedly trying to steal from a West Hollywood 7-Eleven was attacked by the man, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred about 4:30 a.m. in the 7900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard.
The person apparently saw the man trying to steal items from the store and offered to pay for them. The man apparently became upset, refused the offer and a struggled followed, officials said in a news release.
The victim left the store and the suspect pulled out an axe and started hitting the victim in the head several times. The man then ran away from the area and was last seen heading north on Hayworth Avenue.
Police surrounded the area searching for him, but he was not found.
The victim was taken to a hospital and treated for unknown injuries.
No further information was released.
