California Highway Patrol officers were in pursuit of a gray BMW with paper plates in south Los Angeles County on Friday.

Sky5 was overhead shortly before 7 p.m. as the vehicle was traveling down the 110 Freeway near Gardena, soon exiting onto surface streets in the area of Del Amo and Torrance boulevards.

The driver had an encounter with CHP units at the intersection of Torrance and Figueroa boulevards in Carson before getting back onto the southbound 110 Freeway and traveling at high speeds toward San Pedro.

When the car reached the end of the freeway, the pursuit continued onto surface streets in the San Pedro area.

The motorist wove through residential areas in central San Pedro surrounding Gaffey Street for several minutes before the vehicle became trapped in a cul-de-sac.

The driver then fled, leading officers on a foot chase as he hid in the shrubbery of homes in the area.

He was eventually captured and taken into custody around 7:25 p.m., aerial video showed.
