Crews extinguished a fire on the 18th floor of the Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica Saturday evening, officials said.

Firefighters knocked down the fire in 18 minutes, the Santa Monica Fire Department said in a Twitter post at 8:42 p.m.

Forty firefighters were on the scene and seven people were evaluated for minor smoke inhalation, the post said.

Most of the damage was on the exterior of the building near the hotel's Penthouse restaurant, according to officials.

People were evacuated out of the hotel, but they were allowed to return inside Saturday night with the exception of the restaurant area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
