Authorities have arrested a man for investigation of arson in a San Diego County brush fire that destroyed a building and threatened numerous homes.

San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Schmidt says in a news release that 34-year-old Brad Arands was arrested Monday.

Authorities say a brush fire was reported shortly after noon on Monday in northern San Diego County. Authorities say a deputy saw Arands walking away from what appeared to be the spot where the blaze began and detained him.

Arands was later arrested for investigation of arson.

Online jail records show he is being held on $75,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

Authorities say the fire burned five acres.
