A man died following a shooting at a residential neighborhood in Baldwin Park on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Few details were initially available regarding the shooting, which took place about 2 p.m. in the 4200 block of La Rica Avenue, between Ramona Boulevard and Los Angeles Street, Deputy Armando Viera Jr. of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Information Bureau said in a written statement.

Police officers were checking on reports of “shots heard” in the area when they encountered the wounded man, Baldwin Park Police Department Sgt. Andy Velebil said.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his “upper torso,” Viera said. He was soon pronounced dead.

Investigators were seeking at least two people in connection with the shooting.

“The suspects, who were believed to be on bicycles, fled the location northbound on La Rica Avenue and out of view,” Viera said.

Footage from the scene showed a vehicle that appeared to be a black Dodge Charger in an area that was taped off for investigation, and at one point a deputy got inside and appeared to be searching for evidence.

No further details, including a suspect description, were available as the investigation remained in its early stages.

The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is helping the Baldwin Park Police Department with the investigation.
