The workplace violence took place just before 9:30 a.m. at The China Press, 2121, W. Mission Blvd., Alhambra Police Department Sgt. Steven Carr said. The victim and suspected killer both worked at the publication.

“They’re both confirmed coworkers, although he exact motive is unknown,” the sergeant said.

Officers arrived within 90 seconds of the first 911 call reporting the shooting, he said. They encountered four employees of the newspaper, along with the victim.

Officers determined one of the workers was the killer, Carr said. He was taken into custody without a struggle.

“Our detectives are confident that he’s the shooter,” he said.

A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was found at the scene, Carr added.

The killing took place on the second floor of the three-story building, which is primarily occupied by The China Press, officials said.

The identities of both the victim and the suspect were not released Friday afternoon.
