A CHP pursuit from the San Gabriel Valley to the north San Fernando Valley ended with a dramatic PIT maneuver and the driver in custody on Friday.
The white Lexus sedan with tinted windows was traveling at high speeds, with a California Highway Patrol officers in pursuit on the westbound 210 Freeway about 2:50 p.m., aerial video from Sky5 showed.
The chase apparently began with Monterey Park police and traveled on the 10 and 605 freeways before entering the 210 Freeway and continuing on the 134 Freeway.
After keeping to the carpool lane, the drive picked up speed and began weaving through traffic on the 134 Freeway in the Glendale area. Speeding through stalled vehicles in the Burbank area, the car went onto the northbound 170 Freeway and, from there, the northbound 5 Freeway.
When the vehicle neared the 5 Freeway interchange with the 405 Freeway in the Sylmar area, a CHP officer conducted a PIT maneuver, successfully spinning the Lexus around to a stop.
Trapped by a sound wall, the driver placed his hands on the wheel and eventually exited the car, lay spread eagle on the pavement and surrendered. He appeared to be a young man in a hooded sweatshirt and khakis.
CHP was unable to confirm any details about what led to the chase.
