An ex-teacher at Lakewood High School was sentenced to prison for the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old female student, officials said Friday.

Mary Jahn, 53,  was sentenced to three years in state prison for sexually abusing the student over the course of three years, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release. On Nov. 9, Jahn pleaded no contest to one count of lewd acts upon a child.

Prosecutors said Jahn’s sexual relationship with the student began in July 2008. The victim, who is now an adult, alerted law enforcement about the relationship in 2017.

Investigators from the Long Beach Police Department arrested Jahn in September of 2017. She had remained free on bond pending the trial process, Los Angeles County booking records show.

In addition to her prison sentence, Jahn is also required to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.
