24-Year-Old Man Killed, Female Bystander Injured in Long Beach Shooting

A 24-year-old Compton man was killed in a shooting in Long Beach that also injured a female bystander Wednesday night, according to police.

About 10:45 p.m., officers were called to the scene in the 200 block of East Anaheim Street and found the man on the sidewalk upon arrival, police said in a news release issued Thursday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman who police say is not related to the victim and was not involved in the altercation that led up to the shooting was also struck by gunfire, police said. She suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound to her lower torso and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Details about her current medical condition were not released by police.

Investigators believe the shooting happened after the victim got into some sort of altercation with the suspects, who are described by police as three black adults driving a dark-colored four-door SUV at the time of the incident.

Police are still investigating a possible motive and have not released other details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the victim.
