Spoken Dreams: Katie Ferrara, Singer-songwriter

Katie Ferrara is a singer-songwriter originally from Eagle Rock. Katie was a shy girl growing up, but she always had a desire to sing. To help draw her out of her shell, she joined the school choir, and her love for performing grew. She taught herself how to play guitar, and began performing her own songs at various open mic nights around town. But when she went off to college, music took a backseat as Katie studied psychology to prepare for the more traditional career path that was expected of her.

After studying abroad in her junior year, Katie realized she couldn’t escape her desire to pursue a career in music, and would end up leaving the country to challenge herself in London. When she returned to Los Angeles, she found herself  in debt and a career in music didn’t seem to be panning out the way she thought it would. Katie fell back on her psychology degree and was thinking of becoming a teacher, but all the while feeling guilty for turning her back on her music again. That’s when she stumbled upon a new path that would allow her to share her music, travel the world, and recapture her happiness. Katie began working as a street performer.
