Police are searching for an armed man who may be responsible for a string of recent holdups in Orange County.
Two of those incidents occurred Wednesday night, police from Santa Ana and Irvine confirmed.
About 10:30 p.m., police said a man walked into the Courtyard by Marriott hotel located at 8 MacArthur Place in Santa Ana and pointed a gun at the clerk.
The armed man, who was wearing a black ski mask and a white shirt, took some cash and fled the hotel.
About 30 minutes later, surveillance video from a 7-Eleven convenience store in Irvine showed a man in a black ski mask and white shirt entering the store and pointing a silver handgun at the clerk.
Video shows the gunman holding a backpack and apparently demanding money from the cashier.
Instead of handing over the money however, the clerk said he told the man to “get out.”
The video shows the gunman fleeing the store in the 8600 block of Irvine Center Drive as the cashier appears to be calling police on his cellphone.
Investigators are trying to determine if the gunman in Wednesday's incidents is the same as a person captured on surveillance video at hotels around Irvine, including at the Courtyard by Marriott at 7905 Irvine Center Drive and La Quinta Inn at 14972 Sand Canyon Ave. Monday morning and Doubletree Hotel at 60 Pacifica on March 1.
In video from the Marriott, a man wearing a similar black ski mask and white shirt is seen pointing a gun at the clerk.
Police say a La Quinta hotel was also held up that same morning.
Santa Ana police say they are investigating two other incidents similar to Wednesday's, one that occurred Tuesday and another from Feb. 28.
No injuries have been reported in any of the incidents.
The suspect is described as measuring between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 130 to 160 pounds. He was seen wearing a white T-shirt with a black, long-sleeved shirt underneath and his face was concealed with a ski mask.
Irvine police believe a second suspect is involved, and they describe that man as being about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing around 150 pounds. That man was seen in a black windbreaker, orange beanie and ski goggles.
