Man Sought After Killing ‘Harmless’ Dog in Apparent Unprovoked Attack in Pomona: Police

Police on Thursday released grainy surveillance images amid the search for a man who they said trespassed on a Pomona property this week and stabbed a dog to death in an apparent unprovoked attack.

A transient entered the property in the 800 block of East Second Street and then, for reasons unknown, began chasing the canine, according to a Pomona Police Department news release.

He then fatally stabbed the dog, who police described as "harmless."

Jose Sanchez, the dog's owner, told KTLA a bloody trail is what led him to the lifeless remains of the 5-year-old canine on Monday. Sanchez said she suffered a horrible death.

Police reported that the incident took place on Tuesday, but Sanchez said it actually took place the day before that.

He also clarified the canine somehow got out of the fenced in property before the unprovoked attack.

A portion of the brutal attack was captured on a home security camera, but Sanchez said he couldn't watch the entire video of the gruesome attack.

The footage showed the man chasing after the dog with a knife, according to Sanchez. She tried to get away, even hiding for her life underneath a car, before he killed her.

Sanchez was traumatized by the attack, saying he was unable to sleep the past few nights.

Investigators released two images of the man being sought in the incident.

Police described the attacker as white or Hispanic, about 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

The man is homeless and known to frequent the street where the fatal incident took place, according to the release.

He was wearing a "fisherman" style, a gray T-shirt, shorts, black socks and sandals.

Anyone with information about him is urged to call police at 909-620-2085 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
