Man Killed in Shooting at Watermarke Tower in Downtown L.A

A shooting at Watermarke Tower in downtown Los Angeles Thursday evening left a man dead, authorities said.

Few details were initially available regarding the killing, which took place shortly before 7 p.m. at the apartment building, 705 W. 9th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The victim was pronounce dead at the scene.

A report of gunfire first drew a police response, LAPD Lt. Chris Ramirez said.

"When officers arrived, they found a victim down in the lobby from apparent gunshot wounds," the lieutenant said. Paramedics treated he victim, but he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives responded to take charge of the investigation, Ramirez said. Officers were conducting a "limited search" of the building, he added,

Investigators continued looking for witnesses, surveillance video or other clues Thursday night.

No further details, including a suspect description or motive, were available.
