Expanded LAX-IT Pickup Lot Opens, With Initial Reviews Positive

At Los Angeles International Airport’s newly expanded pickup lot Wednesday, shuttles came and went smoothly. Travelers walked leisurely to their waiting rides. Employees smiled and greeted their colleagues.

“It’s so lovely now! It’s so much better,” one Lyft employee shouted to a colleague.

It was a stark contrast from just a few days ago, when the new pickup lot opened, introducing long lines and longer wait times for frustrated travelers who once could hail a ride from the terminal curb.

On the first day of the new system, wait times were up to an hour for those needing an Uber, Lyft or taxi. On Sunday night, the airport’s busiest night of the week, travelers waited up to 90 minutes for their rides, partly because of a shortage of cars, according to Becca Doten, a spokeswoman with Los Angeles World Airports.
