The actor’s body arrived on a charter flight to Newark, New Jersey on Sunday night on a charter flight, Michael Kobold said.

A funeral was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in Manhattan.

Gandolfini, 51, died last Wednesday in Rome after suffering a heart attack, autopsy results showed.

He was on vacation with his 13-year-old son Michael, and was scheduled to receive an award at the Taormina Film Fest in Sicily later in the week.

On the day that he died, Gandolfini had visited the Vatican and had dinner at the hotel with his son, Kobold said in a statement from the family.

His son reportedly alerted hotel staff that his father was not answering knocks on the bathroom door.

Hotel staff broke down the bathroom door to get to Gandolfini and called an ambulance.

Paramedics worked on him at the hotel, and further efforts were made in the emergency room, but he was dead when he arrived, hospital officials said.

In addition to his son, Gandolfini leaves behind a wife and an 8-month-old daughter, Liliana.
