The Los Angeles County Fair is over, and now the Pomona Fairplex is being taken over by some of the hottest off road vehicles. Gayle Anderson will tell you all the details, plus other fun activities happening across Southern California this weekend.



Battle of the Paddle 2014

 See the skills of the world’s greatest stand up paddlers at the 'Battle Of The Paddle 2014.' New this year is the addition of prone paddle board category. If you are not participating, there is a great viewing area. Also find an informational expo, kids races and a kids zone, and yoga area.





Third Annual Scheyden Catalina Air Show
Santa Catalina Island

Spend the day watching several extraordinary aerobatic performances from some of the world's most skilled aviators over Catalina at the 'Third Annual Schyden Catalina Air Show.'  In addition to the air show, there’s a five-hour beer and wine tasting, as well as a musical performances from legendary guitarist Robby Krieger of The Doors and Dave Brock of Wild Child. All proceeds will benefit the Catalina Island Aviation Foundation.

Look who’s come to town! It’s the world’s most beloved blue engine! Thomas the Tank Engine. Thomas & Friends: Explore the Rails has rolled into the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana. The Science Technology, Engineering and Math, also known as STEM, focused exhibit engages children and families in foundational skills that foster STEM literacy through playful learning experiences. The exhibit incorporates foundational STEM practices that encourage thinking mathematically, making comparisons, experimenting to solve problems using a variety of methods and tools, thinking creatively and reflecting on actions and results.





Neighborhood Pride Day

It’s Neighborhood Pride Day!  Volunteers are needed in Sun Valley to help with the maintenance and upkeep for several homes, two of the homes belong to elderly veterans. If you can paint, weed, plant, and are comfortable with trash and graffiti removal, sign up. In return, there will be breakfast and lunch for volunteers.





World Habitat Day

 Volunteers are also needed in advance of World Habitat Day, Monday, October 6th in Cypress at the Habitat for Humanity Orange County Lincoln Avenue housing development project. Volunteers can help complete fifteen, one, two and three bedroom homes, each complete with two car garages. Habitat for Humanity OC says it's also looking for low income veterans who might need housing. Call the volunteer hotline or email Habitat for Humanity OC for details.

Lucas Off Road Expo

Want some wilder wheels? The 2014 Lucas Oil Off-Road Expo Powered by General Tire offers the greatest collection of off-road companies, parts, equipment, gear, and experts ever assembled in America.  From off-road racing to rock crawling, trail riding to sand sports, to motorcycles and ATV's, to camping and adventure travel, you have the unique opportunity to meet and talk with the most knowledgeable people in the off-road industry.  With a full weekend of excitement, 60,000+ attendees and over 300 off-road vendors in one location, you will see everything that is going on in the dynamic world of off-road. You can also see the brand new Red Bull experience called Straight Rhythm, an “unwound" Supercross track. There are no turns, just a 1/2 mile-long straight rhythm section.  The innovative format will pit a field of 32 riders against each other in a head-to-head best-of-three bracket format.  By isolating just the whoops, triples, doubles, table tops and step on/offs, riders must focus exclusively on reading the terrain directly in front of them and correctly judging their speed for precise distance and control.
