UN Youth Champion 2012 Bosilika An talks about being one of the young leaders recognized by the UN Foundation.

Bosilika An of Los Angeles was named Youth Champion today for the Girl Up campaign by the United Nations Foundation. These young leaders are set apart and chosen by their strong sense of purpose and social responsibility. Bosilika, who recently spoke at Ted X Youth conference in Kuala Lumpur, has made it her mission to inspire the “millennial generation” to realize their power to create change, to demonstrate that philanthropy should be fun, and to assure them that “selfish altruism” can exist when business and philanthropy intermingle for mutually beneficial ends.

Bosilika distinguished herself as a dynamo Teen Philanthropist when, at 13, she and a friend founded “The Bash Organization,” a group run“ by Teens for Teens” that raised nearly $350,000 for Los Angeles Children’s Hospital. Though An has recently graduated Harvard Westlake High School, the Bash remains an all-teen charity, “by teens, for teens.” And has also raised nearly 25 million in media awareness for girls education worldwide.
