February is NATIONAL PET DENTAL HEALTH MONTH. The American Veterinary Medical Association reports 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats have some kind of oral disease by the age of 3. spcaLA says keeping on top of your pet’s dental health has lasting positive effects. Some studies suggest maintaining oral health can add up to five years to your pet’s life.

Participants “plunge” into chilly water with friends and family. Each “plunger” will raise a minimum of $50 to participate. Those who wish to stay dry can sign up as “Too Chicken to Plunge” and still raise $50 to participate. Attendees will enjoy souvenirs, concessions, contests, and fun along the way.

This year’s POLAR PLUNGE happens at Mother’s Beach in Marina del Rey and Leadbetter Beach in Santa Barbara.

The POLAR PLUNGE is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Southern California, the largest grassroots fundraising program for Special Olympics. The Law Enforcement Torch Run has raised more than $1 million each of the past three years for Special Olympics Southern California. Officers raise money through Tip-A-Cop dinners, Plane Pulls, 5K/10K runs, raffles, car shows, bike rides, Polar Plunges, golf tournaments, and other special events.
