The LA Art Show 2016 occupies the downtown Los Angeles Convention Center. The 200,000 square foot art fair features more than 50 national and international artists. This year, for the first time in 20 years, event organizer say the LA ART SHOW is including the creativity of local LA artists.

Renowned artist Synthia Saint James helps the Museum of African American Art celebrate its 40th anniversary with a new exhibit featuring “The Creative World of Synthia Saint James.” We can own piece of the award winning arist’s work, available in the museum’s gift shop.

ANDY WARHOL: LIFE & LEGENDS is a FREE exhibit at the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art on the campus of Pepperdine University. As a founding member of the 1960s Pop Art movement, and the man credited with creating the term “superstar” and the phrase “everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame,” WARHOL revolutionized contemporary culture by exploring connections among advertising, celebrity, and fine art.

This exhibition features more than 80 Warhol works and includes some of his best known images, including his Campbell Soup Cans, Flowers, and Marilyn Monroe.

Free at the William Grant Still Arts Center the 35TH ANNUAL BLACK DOLL SHOW. Curated by Dr. Cynthia Davis, doll maker and assistant professor in the College of Medicine and College of Science and Health at Charles R. Drew University, the theme of the show is “The War Against HIV/AIDS –Women of the Africa Diaspora in the Trenches.” This exhibit highlights the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic domestically and globally on women of color.

Free at the Fowler Museum at UCLA the exhibit DISGUISE: MASKS AND GLOBAL AFRICAN ART, a presentation of 12 contemporary artists, six from continental Africa and six Americans of African heritage, who use artistic strategies of disguise and key visual and performative elements of traditional African masquerade in their work.

Join the Aquarium of the Pacific for its thirteenth annual FESTIVAL OF HUMAN ABILITIES. This event features wheelchair dance, art demonstrations, accessible SCUBA diving demonstrations, interactive workshops, and other creative performances by people who have a variety of challenges.

Sign language interpreters are present at all major shows, and an audio tour is available for the blind.


Respect! Otis Redding and The Soul Revolution

“RESPECT! Otis Redding and Revolution of Soul” is a new exhibit at the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live. The exhibit offers visitors a unique look at the influential career of the legendary “King of Soul”, and the lasting impact he made on music and pop culture in such a short period of time.

Otis Redding died December 10th, 1967 in a plane crash on his way to performance in Madison, Wisconsin. He was 26 years old.

This is GRAY WHALE watching season. The Eastern North Pacific GRAY WHALE is making it annual migration from the Bering Sea in Alaska to Scammon’s Lagoon in Baja California, Mexico and back.

Harbor Breeze Cruises and the Aquarium of the Pacific are teaching us about mammals at both the museum and on the water.
