Gayle Anderson was live in Santa Clarita visiting THE GENTLE BARN, founded in Tarzana in 1999 by Ellie Laks. THE GENTLE BARN recently celebrated its 16th anniversary. THE GENTLE BARN was created as a place that combined Laks’ special love of animals and desire to help children. More than one hundred and seventy rescued animals are now safe and happy at THE GENTLE BARN, which works with children from inner-city, group homes, mental health care facilities, foster homes, and schools to teach kindness and compassion for all living things. Since its inception, THE GENTLE BARN has been home to hundreds of animals and host to more than 400,000 people.

In 2003, Ellie and Jay moved THE GENTLE BARN to a six-acre paradise in Santa Clarita, CA. The property is complete with large horse and cow pastures, a red and white barnyard for the smaller animals, an organic vegetable garden, lots of shade trees, and a panoramic view of gorgeous mountains. A second location in Knoxville Tennessee has also opened, which is home to a cow named Dudley, three horses named Worthy, Indie and Chris as well as chickens and pigs. For more information on the Tennessee location, click HERE. The ultimate goal is to open THE GENTLE BARN‘s across the country so that every animal and child can have a place of healing and safety.

THE GENTLE BARN is open to the public Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Come hug the cows, give the pigs a tummy rub, and cuddle the turkeys at THE GENTLE BARN.

To ensure that smaller animals in the upper barnyard don’t feel overstressed or overcrowded, THE GENTLE BARN allows groups to go into the upper barnyard at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m. (times subject to change without notice), after a presentation by our founder about how THE GENTLE BARN got started, what happens during the week and its vision. Regular visitors should consider a Season Pass. For just $50, you can get a season pass and skip all the lines! No waiting to get in the front door and no waiting to get into the upper barnyard. Season pass holders will also get free water and popcorn. Season passes can be purchased online or at the entrance on Sundays.

Tickets for “A Gentle Thanksgiving” at both THE GENTLE BARN locations in California and Tennessee are now available online. Come celebrate gentleness on Thanksgiving Day, November 26th from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. by cuddling turkeys, taking part in a Native American drum circle and enjoying a gourmet, vegan meal.
