Five hikers killed after huge rock slide on popular Colorado trail.

Five hikers were presumed killed Monday in a rock slide on a popular trial in the Colorado mountains, according to the Chaffee County sheriff’s office.

Reports of a slide near Agnes Vaille Falls in Nathrop came in just after 11 a.m. MT.

Rescuers were able to pull one hiker, a 13-year-old girl, from the debris.  She was flown to Children’s Hospital in Denver in unknown condition.

Crews were unable to proceed further Monday because of concerns the slide was highly unstable.

The five missing hikers were trapped by large boulders, some the size of a car, Chaffee County Sheriff Pete Palmer said.

Rescuers concluded their situation was not survivable, according to county spokeswoman Laura Smith.

The names of the hikers have not been released.
