One hundred and four firefighters responded to the 1000 block of Bonnie Brae Street, where the fire was reported at 12:18 a.m. and extinguished within 53 minutes, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A 90-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man died in the fire and four others were injured, including a firefighter who burned his fingertips, officials said. One resident reportedly broke his leg after jumping out of a window to escape the inferno.

Twenty-five people were displaced by the fire, authorities said.

“We’re going to continue to ensure that all the hot spots are put out and continue with our investigation, continue to go through the areas of the apartment house that are damaged or destroyed by fire,” said LAFD Deputy Chief Mario Rueda.
