Vidal Quevedo was shot while smoking in the parking lot area of an apartment complex in the 2900 block of North Bristol Street in Santa Ana (map) at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna with the Santa Ana Police Department.

Quevedo was found by family members after having been shot, and was transported to UCI Medical Center, where he died. He had been shot in the upper torso, police said.

Witnesses heard one to two shot fired, according to a police news release.

Police were looking for two men who fled the shooting on foot, Bertagna said.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department was sending a bloodhound to the scene to help the investigation.

The neighborhood was not “gang-affiliated,” Bertagna said.
