DOWNEY, Calif. (KTLA) — The 1980s band A Flock of Seagulls was robbed of $70,000 in equipment after a local performance Sunday night, band members said.

After performing in Bellflower, the band, best known for its song “I Ran (So Far Away),” drove their van to a Comfort Inn in Downey.

Surveillance video from the hotel showed the band’s white 1999 Ford E-350 van parked in front of the reception area.

Overnight, a car was seen pulling up to the van.

A man got out of the car, broke into the van and drove off with it and everything inside.

Among the items stolen were the hard drives of a new solo album recorded by frontman Mike Score, as well as several one-of-a-kind instruments.

“We think it was somebody from the club that followed us knowing the van was full of equipment,” Score said.

“You know, like Joe’s guitar here was hand-built. I use a couple of Fenders that are customized,” he said.

The group had several international performances lined up and said they will have to find a way to improvise.

Meantime, band members were hoping the thieves wouldn’t get away with selling their equipment.

The van had Florida license plates. Anyone with information is urged to call Downey police at (562) 861-0771.
