LONDON — Actress Angelina Jolie made her first public appearance on Sunday since announcing last month that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy.
The Oscar-winning actress joined husband Brad Pitt on the red carpet in London for the premiere of his latest film, “World War Z.”
“It was a relief to be through the other side and for her to be healthy and know that that thing was never going to be the thing that would take her,” Pitt said.
Jolie revealed that she carries a mutation of the BRCA1 gene, which sharply increases her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
Jolie’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of ovarian cancer at age 56 after fighting the disease for a decade.
The mother of six is reportedly planning to have her ovaries removed to avoid the risk.
