Boy, 8, Wounded in South Los Angeles Shooting

An 8-year-old boy who was shot while playing outside in South Los Angeles was in stable condition on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The shooting was reported just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday, LAPD Sgt. Cundiff said.

The boy was playing with other children in the street near the intersection of Imperial Highway and Avalon Boulevard (map) when a man stopped his vehicle, got out and fired multiple shots, according to Cundiff.

The child was hit in the shoulder and hip.

Family members rushed the boy to a local hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries, Cundiff said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
