Police were searching for a driver who critically injured a motorcyclist in a hit-and-run early Tuesday in Buena Park, authorities said.

A motorcycle lay on the street in Buena Park after a hit-and-run collision early Tuesday.

The collision occurred about 12:20 a.m., when the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Knott Avenue near Orangethorpe Avenue, police said. The cyclist was struck by a full-size Chevy Silverado pickup truck, described as black or dark grey with tinted windows.

The driver of the truck had been heading eastbound on Orangethorpe Avenue and reportedly ran a red light.

“Apparently the motorcyclist saw that the truck driver wasn’t going to stop, so [the cyclist] hit the brakes and the motorcycle went end-over-end,” Buena Park police Sgt. Judith Williams said. “The motorcyclist flew off the bike and, according to one of the witnesses,” was run over by the truck’s back tire.

The truck did not stop after the crash, police said. The victim, who was not identified, was transported to UCI Medical Center with critical injuries.

Anyone with information regarding the crash was asked to contact the Buena Park Police Department at (714) 562-3902.
