BURBANK, Calif. (KTLA) — The Burbank City Council has made a decision regarding some of man’s four-legged friends.

A new ordinance passed on Wednesday bans pet stores from selling animals obtained from commercial breeders or “puppy mills”.

In addition the ban prohibits any breeder — even those who consider it a hobby — to sell to pet stores.

Pet stores may now only sell rescue dogs or cats from shelters.

Critics say the ban could hurt the economy.
