RESEDA, Calif. (KTLA) — Friends and family gathered for a memorial Saturday to remember an 83-year-old man killed while crossing the street.

The victim, identified as Asgahar Abbassi, was using a walker to cross White Oak Avenue in a marked crosswalk on Aug. 26, according to police investigators.

Asgahar Abbassi was killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing White Oak Avenue in Reseda.

The driver of a Nissan 300ZX traveling northbound on White Oak struck Abbassi, who was thrown across the street, Det. Bill Bustos said.

Abbassi died at the scene, Bustos added.

Abbassi’s widow cannot have closure on his death until the driver is found, according to Steve Abbassi, who is the victim’s son.

“We’ve been very concerned about my mother.  She has a bad heart to begin with,” said Steve.

There were no skid marks, indicating that the driver did not slow down before or after the impact, detectives said.

Police believed the vehicle, possibly a 2000 to 2006 model, had extensive front and rear end damage.

The deadly crash was the third hit-and-run in the San Fernando Valley in 11 days.

Anyone with information on the case was asked to call detectives at 1-800-222-8477.
