The car was traveling westbound on Ventura Boulevard about 1 a.m. at approximately 80 mph when the collision occurred, according to witnesses.

Police officers had reportedly spotted the vehicle speeding in Reseda and gave chase. It was during the pursuit that the woman apparently lost control of the car and slammed into a building that houses a dry cleaning business.

Emergency personnel extricated the driver from the wreckage and she was transported to a hospital, where she was listed in fair condition.

The mangled vehicle – whose engine block was ejected in the crash – was towed and Ventura Boulevard was reopened in both directions.

Meanwhile, a cleanup operation was underway at the building that was damaged in the collision.

“I guess it could be worse,” the owner of the building said, adding that the structural integrity of the structure was sound. “The city engineer came and said they don’t have to red tag the building.”

No charges had been filed in the incident, police said. An investigation was underway.
