Surgeon and Scientist Dr. Rahul Scientist explains the health advantages of marriage for men and women. Relationships and marriage can lead to better health, but men and women don’t benefit to the same degree.

Marriage offers the ultimate health benefit: a longer life. Compared to their unwed counterparts, married people have longer average life spans and are drastically less likely to die at an early age.

The comfort of holding your husband’s hand can actually minimize your feelings of pain, according to a recent study. Marriage is also good for mental health and appears to be a stabilizing force in women with biplor disorder. Married bipolar women have fewer and milder depressive episodes than their never-married counterparts, but the same trend is not found in bipolar men.
