The victim, 41-year-old Rene Balbuena, was shot in front of his 15-year-old son on Saturday night while responding to a Craigslist ad for a cell phone, according to family members.

Balbuena had driven to South L.A. from his home in South Gate, family members said.

He and his son were sitting in a car at 92nd Street and Gramercy Place when two men opened fire on the vehicle, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Balbuena was taken to an area hospital, where he died. His son suffered a graze wound, police said.

It did not appear the gunmen obtained any money from Balbuena, according to police.

No arrests have been made in the case.  Anyone with information was asked to call the LAPD.
