Get ready for one of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations in the country as Los Angeles Chinatown kicks off the Year of the Dragon in a big way. Enjoy hundreds of spectacular floats, decked out cars, dancers and bands as they parade down the heart of Chinatown. The Lunar New Year Festival commences after the parade with cultural performances by some of the nation’s best Chinese acts. Enjoy one or several cultural workshops and sample the many gourmet food trucks at the event. Wildly popular Cupcake Wars will be on hand with 1000 Chinese New Year themed cupcakes for attendees to enjoy. The Chinese New Year Festival is free and open to all ages.

The Academy Awards are not the only salute to the movie industry happening in town right now.
The Pan African Film Festival, America’s largest and most prestigious international Black film festival, is underway at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza. Movie lovers will find nearly two-hundred films representing 34 countries.
The festival will award prizes to the best of the best at the festival.

Blake and the late KTLA Anchor Larry McCormick.  They are among “The 90 That Built LA” on exhibit at the Los Angeles Museum of African American Art. The exhibit celebrates the Los Angeles Urban League’s 90-plus years of community service. Admission to this exhibit is also free!

And, do something nice for someone this weekend. Collect and donate blanket and socks for Orange county’s homeless men, women and children at the Operation Warm Wishes Blanket and Sock Drive in Tustin. The goal is to collect two-hundred blankets and pairs of socks.

The first 50 people to donate blanket and socks will receive a FREE cup of coffee from Starbucks.
