Rap star Kanye West was facing a misdemeanor battery charge Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old man a day earlier in Beverly Hills, authorities said.
The alleged assault happened around 12:15 p.m. Monday at an office building in the 8800 block of Wilshire Boulevard., according to a news release from the Beverly Hills Police Department.
“The named suspect was identified as Kanye West by the victim and several witnesses,” the release said.
West was gone by the time officers arrived, according to police.
The trouble apparently started when the teenager got into an argument with West’s fiancée Kim Kardashian, according to TMZ.
Kardashian, 33, was being swarmed by photographers outside a chiropractor’s office and the teenager intervened by hurling a series of racial and homophobic slurs at the paparazzi, sources told the entertainment website.
Kardashian then told the young man the language he was using was not appropriate, and the teen responded by calling her an “n-word lover,” TMZ reported.
The reality TV star called West, who met her at the building. West allegedly hit the teenager.
The hip-hop star, 36, was already facing battery and attempted grand theft charges after an altercation with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport last summer.
West pleaded not guilty to the charges in November.
