LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — L.A. County firefighters used a treacherous landscape Friday to lead a multi-agency training exercise.

Dozens of public safety professionals converged on Angeles Crest Highway in the Angeles National Forest to conduct what is called an “Over-the-Side High-Angle Technical Rescue Exercise.

The steep and rugged terrain has been the location of a large number of rescue operations throughout the history of the L.A. County Fire Department.

Last year, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Team completed 560 missions.

Crews say they want to ensure that mountain accidents end in life-saving rescues.
