Two in Custody After LAPD Pursuit of Armed Robbery Suspect in Valley

A driver and his passenger were apprehended after an armed robbery suspect led police on a chase in the San Fernando Valley Thursday afternoon, aerial video showed.

chaseThe pursuit of the armed robbery suspect began in Winnetka, an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley station said.

Aerial video showed LAPD officers attempting to stop a white pickup truck using a PIT maneuver in the Northridge area.

A second PIT maneuver attempt led the pickup truck to crash into a tree on a sidewalk, and a man and woman fled the vehicle on foot near the Northridge branch library at Darby Avenue and Nordhoff Street. The library is kitty-corner from the campus of California State University, Northridge.

The pair split up, and officers pursued in patrol cars and on foot. The male driver appeared to enter a parked SUV and was taken away, handcuffed, from behind the vehicle. The SUV’s driver, who had been in the vehicle, was also escorted from the scene by officers.

The female passenger who fled the pursuit after the crash was also taken into custody by police, aerial video showed.
