A man died and a suspected shooter is in custody after gunfire erupted at a workplace in Paramount Friday, Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators said.

Deputies were called shortly after 10 a.m. about a shooting at 7805 Madison St., a watch commander at the Sheriff’s Department’s Lakewood station told KTLA.

Fenico Precision Castings Inc., a foundry, is located at that address, according to its website. Video from the scene showed workers waiting outside a nearby business named RnG Poong Lim USA, which was within the area taped off for investigation.

When deputies arrived, they found a man dead inside one of the buildings with a gunshot wound to his upper torso, said Sheriff’s Lt. Charles Calderaro.

The victim was a Hispanic man in his late 60s, Calderaro said.

A suspect has been detained and a firearm was recovered, the watch commander said. The official said he wasn’t sure what the alleged gunman’s relation to the business is, but he did not believe he was a random person.

Calderaro said the suspect — a man around 59 years old — is possibly a coworker who had a dispute with the victim, but investigators are still unsure.

Homicide detectives who responded to the scene were conducting interviews, Calderaro said. But it was still unknown whether anyone actually witnessed the shooting.

“We still have a lot of work to do,” the lieutenant said. “We have a lot of interviews to conduct.”

Investigators are also working to uncover any surveillance video that may exist.

No further details were available.
